Katarzyna Mełgieś, PhD

Legal Counsel

Katarzyna Mełgieś is a legal counsel, the graduate of the Faculty of Law, Canon Law and Administration of John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin (KUL). She was conferred doctor of law degree based on the publically defended dissertation entitled “Public and legal character of the nature of concessions and authorizations to exercise economic activity”. She is an Associate Professor in the Department of Administrative Law of KUL.

  • Dr Katarzyna Mełgieś represented global companies in disputes related to the infringement of industrial property rights as well as the law on suppressing unfair competition. She participated in cases related to the invalidation of industrial property rights before the Polish Patent Office and administrative courts. She counseled also on the cases related to the commercialization of research results and developing strategies for the protection of intellectual property rights. She gained professional experience through cooperation with one of the largest IP companies in Poland, where in the years 2002 -2006 and 2013 – 2015 she was the Head of Litigation Department, while running her own practice.
    She participated in many national and international conferences on health protection law and intellectual property law – she is the author of many publications in this field. She is a lecturer at the medical law seminar, organized regularly by C.H. Beck Publishing House and Polish Bar Foundation.
    She is a member of The Local Chamber of Legal Advisers in Lublin as well as International Trademark Association (INTA) , Marques i European Health Law Association (EHLA).
